Fine Arts Department

The Department of Fine Arts came into existence in the year 1973, introducing its first subject Painting. The second subject, Applied Art was introduced in the year 1986. An academic course of study in Fine Art as a part of graduation in BA includes, Fine Arts (Painting) and Applied Art (Commercial Arts). The objective of Painting as a subject is to develop the students’ technical skills and ability to interpret and create forms using the visual elements and aesthetic principles to communicate ideas and concepts through various mediums. Applied Art lays emphasis on teaching the basic concepts of design that is further explored through layouts, posters, illustrations and monograms in order to create strong communicative advertising. Our students use a variety of methods for artistic creativity in different fields of Fine Arts as painting, sculpting, cartooning, illustration, poster making – and an assortment of materials, oils, pastels, acrylic, poster colors, pen and ink, clay, plaster etc. There works portray the everyday life through the lens of creativity such as still life objects, life studies, nature and its different moods through landscapes and other related events. The Department of Fine Arts is dedicated towards laying emphasis on the creative identity of the students through a progressive approach fostered by teachers to the study and practice of art. After graduation with Fine Arts the students explore possibilities to gain experience working in art agencies, museums, studios, galleries, and more. A degree with Fine Art/ Applied Art prepares them to enter a variety of fields, depending upon the specialization. Fine Artists typically work independently specializing in one or two art forms. Their future could include painting, sculpting, printing, restoration, illustration and commercial arts or advertising etc. The Department is known for its participation in all the items of art in various competitions, specifically Zonal and Inter Zonal youth festivals and is always recommended and appreciated.
